Humanitarian Expeditions
I have been on several humanitarian expeditions to small islands in the Riau Archipelago (yes, one of them has no supply of fresh water), Cambodia & the tsunami-affected Meulaboh in Aceh.
Among other things, I had constructed wells, painted schools, refurbished run-down village halls, taught kids in village schools, helped with public health education, conducted malaria survey, and worked in mobile clinics. I had been a volunteer, organiser and project manager of the expeditions.
Although the expeditions were physically, mentally and emotionally demanding, seeing the smiles on the villagers' faces made the effort worthwhile. Despite language and cultural barriers, strong bonds of friendship were formed as everyone worked together in the name of humanity.
I remember all my expeditions fondly and look forward to more expeditions.
